Breakdown Of Sanity - Coexistence: Track By Track Review
Well, it seems it's that time again. Time to have the worst neck pain ever and a huge headache. But it's SO worth it. Breakdown Of Sanity is a band that never gets old. If you've had a shitty day and just want to let it all out, the chaos that is this band can help you right out with that. After hearing Restless, I was honestly scared about this album. However, I think this may have turned out to be their best effort so far.
Bulletproof: This song starts off so beautiful and it does not let up. The mesmerizing atmospherics lead you straight into one of the most beautiful, and still heavy, songs they have ever written. They could not have picked a better opener. Very cool track.
Restless: I think everyone has agreed that this is the weakest song on the album. When they released this song last month, I won't lie, I was scared. This song just didn't pack that punch that the rest of their songs have. It had a few cool parts, but mostly fell short. One major complaint I have with this song is the very odd tempo change when the final breakdown hits. It feels very out of place, as does this whole song compared to the rest of the album.
Back To Zero: I am absolutely blown away by this track. It's a very fast paced monster that doesn't seem to let up until the end. This song alone features two of the best breakdowns on the album. The middle breakdown, which has a very unique pattern to it, and the end breakdown, which changes the pace of the whole song with its gorgeous atmospherics. This end part will take you to the moon and back, shitting your pants the entire way.
Dear Diary: A giant orgy of riffs, this one is. The opening riff is very different than anything they have done before. It completely caught me off guard, and I was left wondering if I was still listening to the same band. If the tempo was slowed down a little and the guitar tone was crunched up a bit, I swear it could be a The Acacia Strain riff straight off of Death Is The Only Mortal. This song is another never ending fist fucker like Back To Zero.
Crossed Fingers: You might wanna turn your volume down before this one comes on. The beginning of the song literally sounds like they set off a bomb in the studio. Everything just fucking explodes at once. I almost wanted to get in the fetal position and hide under my bed. This is a song that will become a fan favorite, without a doubt. It's a very fast paced and relentless clusterfuck of breakdown, one that you won't want to miss.
From The Depths: This sounds like a song off of Perception, which isn't a bad thing. It has some very cool riffs and some very heavy breakdowns. Another awesome detail in this song is that ending. Breakdown Of Sanity have ventured into some dangerous waters. This particular style should only be done if it is done right, and that's what they did. The extremely creepy xylophone atmospheric behind the breakdown sounds like something from Born Of Osiris. It will catch you off guard, but it will not disappoint. Oh yeah, and that fucking laugh at the end will make you have nightmares.
The Grand Delusion: This song have a kinda Mirrors vibe too it. It has a bit less atmospheric things going on compared to the rest of the song, and is extremely heavy and hard hitting. Musically, I think this song might be a giant fuck you to the people who don't like their newer sound. This is a very enjoyable song.
Dead Flowers: Usually, I'm not huge into the glitchy type guitar riffs that a lot of metalcore bands do nowadays. I think it's a bit overdone and not very enjoyable. However, BoS managed to pull off a riff of this style in the beginning of this song. Although, I don't think the song as a whole is quite as good as the rest of the album. It's a step up from Restless, but it doesn't have that punch that the rest of the songs do.
Deep Sleep: This song features one of, if not the best, breakdowns on the album. It's a banger of a song already as it was, and then you get hit with this very weird but awesome breakdown. At first, I thought my speakers were fucked up. It's like everything cuts out except for the bass drop for a second, then returns harder than ever. This is something that I don't thing I have ever heard done before. Definitely one of the albums highlights.
Coexistence: I'm glad that they did something different with the title track this time. Instead of being completely instrumental, it is a huge buildup into one of the most beautiful and memorable parts on the album. The drop in this song makes me feel like a baby bird, flying for the first time and soaring above a forest as the sun sets. Fantastic work, BoS.
New World: The end of Coexistence flows perfectly into this banger of a closing track, which is every bit as beautiful as the previous track. This song was written to be a closing track, and was written very well. It leaves you with a very good feeling about what you just listened to. Excellent song.
Breakdown Of Sanity Coexistence
Breakdown Of Sanity have created some of the best work that they have ever written. While I still find it hard to understand what Carlo says half the time, the album is just flat out fantastic and I can promise you that you won't be disappointed. I have a feeling that this will be on repeat for weeks to come.
