Breaking! The first teaser trailer for Dragon Ball Super's next movie is here, and it gives fans their first-look at Goku's next adventure after the Tournament of Power.
As you can see, Dragon Ball Super is still going to be around even after its TV series ends this weekend. The franchise plans on continuing with the first Dragon Ball Super film, and it seems a lot will go down in this feature. Not only will a brand-new creative team take over its art style, but Goku will get an entirely new design and a new villain will be introduced as well.
The trailer above shows just a snippet of the new film. Goku is seen preparing for battle on a deserted wasteland, and the icy tundra marks a very different kind of battlefield for Goku. The hero can be seen prepping for battle as he jumps in place, and then the movie's big baddie is shown way above the Saiyan. The guy isn't shown, but he looks plenty muscular and appears to be wearing a variation of Saiyan armor.
The reel ends with Goku charging forward, saying that it is time to get started. Little other information was shared about the film aside from this footage, but it goes without saying that fans are still hyped. The long-awaited movie will carry on the name of Dragon Ball Super after its TV installment goes on break, and it looks like the feature will have plenty of Saiyan goodies to unpack. So, here's to hoping fans get even more information about the movie sooner rather than later.
Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturday evenings at 7:15 p.m. CST. Adult Swim airs the English dub during its Toonami block Saturday evenings at 9:30 p.m, and is now available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon Video.
There’s a brand new Dragon Ball Super movie coming out in Japan near the end of the year. This comes as a bit of a shock since the series is set to go on hiatus at the end of the Tournament of Power arc. While “indefinite hiatus” doesn’t necessarily mean the series is gone forever, it does mean that there isn’t a current date set the bring it back on the air, which is usually bad news for a show.
However, Toei has confirmed that the 20th Dragon Ball movie will be coming to Japanese theaters on December 14 of this year. The working title seems to just be, “The Dragon Ball Super movie,” at this time, and details are light on what the subject of the film will be about.
Series creator, Akira Toriyama has shed some light on how the movie will fit into the series and a basic idea of what the plot may revolve around.
The Dragon Ball Super movie this time around will be the next story that takes place after the anime that’s currently on TV. The content will shed a little light on previously unexplored topics having to do with Frieza and the Saiyans, and I think it will be a very enjoyable story that serves up a long-awaited formidable opponent!
I wouldn’t be surprised if this movie is a semi-sequel to the last one, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection ‘F’. After the Tournament of Power, Frieza is sure to return to his old ornery behavior, and it would make sense that Goku and squad would have to take him down one last time.
While the Japanese release of the Dragon Ball Super movie will be in December, we haven’t got a date for the English version yet. It usually only takes a few months for the dubbed films to get released here so we’ll likely see the Dragon Ball Super movie in Western theaters March 2019 at the earliest.
Later this year, Dragon Ball Super will receive its very own movie, which will mark the 20th film in Toriyama Akira’s Dragon Ball series!
The film, which will premiere in Japan on Dec. 24, 2018, has been temporarily named Dragon Ball Super. Aside from the new teaser visual showcasing a grinning Goku, the only other information available at the moment is the main staff assigned.
Toriyama, the original author of Dragon Ball, will be handling the screenplay and character designs for the film. The director will be Nagamine Tatsuya, an up-and-coming director who works for Toei Animation and recently directed One Piece Film Z. In addition, Shintani Naohiro will serve as Photo Director, and Ogura Kazuo as Art Director.
The official website of the Dragon Ball franchise launched a promotional image and revealed that the #Movie will be premiered in December of this year. Details of this new production are well being kept by Toei Animation [VIDEO], the new information indicates that the 20th movie of the series will be titled simply, '#DragonBallSuper,' complemented by a promotional image showing the protagonist Goku at a rather young age, still having his power pole.
The key element of the first era of the series, where the characters were not adults, and more flexible fantasy and magic elements were used, unlike the last Arcs of the series, where the element of action in battles was more emphasized, with less fantasy.
The text at the bottom of the revealed image reads, “Super, the movie version starts,” to what we can guess, as previously stated, will be a prequel of the central story of the series, where the origin of the Saiyan race will be explained. Besides, it was confirmed that Akira Toriyama [VIDEO], the original creator of the series, will be in charge of the script as well as character design, so the quality of this movie is more than guaranteed. In the promotional image we can see that Goku’s design is slightly different than what we saw before, a little bit simpler, with rounded edges, and as mentioned above, with very youthful features
We just have to wait until December 14 to enjoy this excellent movie in cinemas, but not without first enjoying the final battle in episode 130 of 'Dragon Ball Super' which will be aired this weekend.
Akira Toriyama has made our day by announcing a new movie coming out for December 2018.
The last two movies, Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’, did incredibly well at the box office. Following that was the immensely popular (and highly dissected) all-new TV series, Dragon Ball Super. With expectations for the as-yet-to-be-titled movie, the series original author, Toriyama-san, will be handling the script and character design for it.
The theme behind the new movie will be “The Strongest Warrior Race in the Universe, The Saiyans.” For those who don’t know Goku, one of the strongest characters in all of anime, has defied all the odds and beaten some pretty tough characters. This film will attempt to look at the “origin” of the Saiyan race and its power.
As Goku continues to evolve (we’re still waiting on the winner of that tournament in Dragon Ball Super), so does the Dragon Ball series. If you’re not excited for this, you might want to fuse with someone who is and get on board.
A brand new Dragon Ball anime movie is set for release in Japan towards the end of this year and franchise creator, Akira Toriyama, has confirmed several salient story details. Despite long periods of inactivity since debuting in 1984, Dragon Ball is as popular as ever both at home in Japan and on Western shores and its most recent television series, Dragon Ball Super, has helped to introduce a whole new generation to Goku‘s world of martial arts, energy blasts, and terrible parenting.
Although Dragon Ball Super has proved highly popular – and far better received by fans than previous series, GT – a surprise announcement from Toei Animation confirmed that the show would be going on an indefinite hiatus upon the conclusion of the current Tournament of Power arc. The thinking behind this decision is currently unclear and viewers don’t yet know whether Super will return at some point in the future or be cancelled completely.

However, Toei (via Forbes) have now announced that a brand new Dragon Ball movie, the 20th thus far, will be released in Japan on December 14, 2018. Interestingly, the movie appears to be retaining the Super moniker, at least for the time being. Original creator Akira Toriyama will be writing the story and designing characters and had the following to say about the movie’s plot:
“The Dragon Ball Super movie this time around will be the next story that takes place after the anime that’s currently on TV. The content will shed a little light on previously unexplored topics having to do with Frieza and the Saiyans and I think it will be a very enjoyable story that serves up a long-awaited formidable opponent!”
The announcement will come as fantastic news to fans of Dragon Ball Super who were concerned that the forthcoming hiatus would signal another quiet period for the franchise and the fact that Toriyama will be heavily involved can only be a good thing. While the December 14 release date is currently for Japan only, English dubs of Dragon Ball movies are usually only a few months behind, so Western fans can tentatively expect to see the Dragon Ball Super movie in theaters around March/April 2019, going by the timeline for previous release, Resurrection F. That means twelve solid months of speculating who this “long-awaited formidable opponent” could be.
However, there are a few elements of Toriyama’s statement that could raise concern with Dragon Ball fans, primarily the fact that the movie will focus on Frieza and the Saiyans. This area of the narrative has been well covered in Dragon Ball Z and is arguably the most iconic arc of the entire franchise. Furthermore, Frieza played a prominent role in both Resurrection F and the Dragon Ball Super TV series. With new and interesting characters such as Hit, Jiren and the Angels to explore, some might argue that the new Dragon Ball movie should look ahead for inspiration, rather than into the franchise’s history.
