Halo 2 Vista Digital Download

So, yesterday I actually got my Halo 2 for Vista to install on Windows 10.

My method on how I installed it (not sure if it will work for you):

With the advent of digital download services like Desura, Steam, and Origin, Microsoft can't even deny that it's a successful way of releasing games. They could even release it *only* on their Storefront exclusively and that would still be an accomplishment in my book. Halo 2 for Windows Vista would run on XP if you did a little modifying.

1. Open the DVD by right clicking and click 'open'

  • Product description. HALO 2.0 PC 32-BIT/VISTA DVD Amazon.com. The entertainment phenomenon that conquered the digital universe is once again out to save the planet as the award-winning, best-selling Halo 2 is coming to the Windows Vista platform. Optimized for the advanced gaming features in Windows Vista, Halo 2 promises to revolutionize the first-person shooter experience for Windows gamers.
  • Installing not necessarily Halo 2 for Vista, but Games for Windows Marketplace. I downloaded GFWM, and everything went fine until it said.

2. double click 'Activate' (Will ask if you want App to allow changes to PC, hit yes), shouldn't open anything on desktop

3. Now go back to the DVD drive window, double click 'Startup', the main menu should appear for Halo 2 install

4. Use 'Custom Game Install', select option 'Full install, then start' (I also created another location for the game to install since I am installing it on separate hard drive ---> F:Microsoft GamesHalo 2, not sure if you want to specify your location)

5. Hit Continue, then yes to allow changes to PC

6. Install should go through, but Activate Halo 2 Later

After the install, it will run the game (other times, go into the game folder and run Halo2.exe or make a shortcut for your desktop).

You will have to create a Hotmail account to go live, but setup the Live account through Xbox Live for a player profile (two different things/accounts to do for Live). You will also have to install the updates and patches (involves restarting the game to take effect), and then also put in your CD key to activate it (once in game, the other on Desktop).

There are some issues I have ran into... First, the mouse (in game play) skips and is not smooth. The other, trying to resolve the mouse issue with a Xbox 360 controller as a game pad, but buttons randomly change while in game play (ex: zoom suddenly is a start button, weapon swap is melee, etc.). But at the same time, have not tried with compatibility mode when playing the game, or if its hardware related.

System:

Windows 10 Pro

i7-6700K @4.0GHz

64GB DDR4 RAM

Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 (2x SLI'd) 8GB GDDR5

Nvidia Geforce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 (Used for PhysX)

P.S. I will have to see with some old games I got about the Marketplace issue... haven't gotten to that issue yet.
