How Do You Download Netflix On Your Tv

Netflix is a digital streaming service that has won itself a legion of loyal fans through airing shows like Stranger Things and Breaking Bad. However, it has also become popular because of the way it changes our television viewing habits. Rather than watch a show episodically, we can blitz an entire season in one night. Or get halfway through and return a month later – the choice is ours. Unless they remove a show, of course.

If you have considered giving Netflix a blast and have a couple of quid a month spare (or decide to take up the free one-month trial), you might want instructions on the various ways to watch it. Here's our guide on the very subject.

Netflix guide: Signing up

To use Netflix, you must first sign up. This can be done through the various devices platforms on offer (web, Android, iOS, Fire TV, Chromecast), or you can go online and do it from the Netflix website. As this is a monthly service, you will need to enter in your card details.

The process is self-explanatory. You will need to choose a password and email address to gain access to Netflix on any device and then fill out various other fields. Try to pick a difficult password or risk others 'borrowing' your account.

If your finances are good and everything checks out, you should be up and running in no time. If not, you should contact Netflix and get the creases ironed out.

Netflix guide: Smart TV

Got a smart TV? There's a good chance you can watch Netflix without any external device. Most, if not all, smart TVs will have a Netflix app either pre-installed or one that can be downloaded.

How

If the app is pre-installed already, you just have to find it and run it. There should be a button that takes you to a TV's smart menu (on a Samsung, for instance, it's the brightly coloured cube thing). Here you can either choose to run the app and then, when prompted, enter in your email address and password.

If the app is missing or you can't find it, you can try to search for it if the smart TV has a search function. Failing that, head to your TV's app store and then search for Netflix. Once found, choose to download and install.

Now either run the app there and then if you can, or go back to where you would usually find pre-installed apps and fire it up.

One important point to note: Netflix requires a broadband connection of a certain speed, otherwise it will pause a lot. But more importantly, ensure your TV is connected via an ethernet cable (the one you stick into a router) or WiFi (smart TVs tend to have wireless connectivity built in). No connection, no ability to download the Netflix app or watch it.
